When to Consider A Commercial Lock Change

When to Consider A Commercial Lock Change

by natsunana

When we talk about security, we usually only think about the basics. Measures that will protect the business in your absence, ways to keep the premises safe when it’s empty. This approach does make sense, considering most burglaries happen while the business isn’t operating, but that’s not the only thing you need to think about when dealing with commercial locks. There are several reasons why your commercial locks might need a change or an upgrade, and in this post, we’re going to be going over the top 5!

When you’ve experienced a break-in

This is a scenario where you should get the locks replaced anywhere, even in a home. If you’ve experienced a break-in, it’s likely that your locks were the culprit, the weak link. Burglars can easily break vulnerable locks and make their way into your office. In a case like this, you should call Atlanta Locksmith, or any reliable emergency locksmith in your local area, to come and change the locks for you! Most of the time, they even have an inventory of some basic locks that you can choose from and get the locks replaced immediately. This will help minimize the risk of another break-in as your locks will no longer be vulnerable.

When you have just moved into a new office

If you’ve just moved into a new office space, it’s important that you don’t just go with the locks that the office came with. This is relevant even if you’ve bought the office, and if you’re renting. Even if your landlord or the previous owner tells you they’re handing over all sets of keys, it’s better to not believe it and change the locks anyway. You never know how many copies of the keys exist and who may have one. You can always keep the lock the space came with safe in storage and have it reinstalled when you’re moving out! That way, your deposit stays safe too and you still get security!

When you’ve had an unpleasant experience with a staff member

If you’ve just fired an employee that had a key, or have had some work done in the space where you had to temporarily give them a key, it means that your locks could be vulnerable. Anyone can get copies of keys made, and those copies can be used in a potential break-in too! Instead of hoping that no one has extra sets of keys, change the locks up and be sure that your space is safe!

 When the locks are old

The older the locks are, the easier they are to break. That’s true for at least basic locks. If your commercial space has old, regular locks, it might be a good idea to not rely on them to hold on for much longer. Change them out for better, more updated locks that could provide more security than older locks could! You can even upgrade to a totally different type of lock like a smart lock instead and make things even easier for yourself going forward. With a smart lock, if you ever feel like you need to change the locks, you’ll only have to replace the code and you’re done!

When the locks begin to malfunction

Commercial spaces use doors and lock a lot more frequently than homes. There are a lot more people coming through the doors and it’s integral that you make sure that each lock in your premises functions properly. The second you notice your locks malfunctioning, don’t take the risk of them breaking down and have them replaced as soon as you possibly can. A malfunctioning lock can fully break at the worst time and could land you in a lot of unnecessary trouble, which is why it’s better to replace the locks at the first incident, leading to more secure premises.
